Human ecology and health

The concept of “human ecology” began to be used about 100 years ago. Since then, it has been firmly entrenched in scientific works, articles and topics of various discussions. Man and ecology are closely related. People associate the state of the environment with various life factors. The ecology of human life is a full-fledged science that studies the influence of the surrounding world on the population of planet Earth.

Modern ecological situation

Every year the state of the environment is deteriorating. This is due to the continuous growth of industry, urbanization and an increase in the number of cars. Phenol, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide and other toxic substances enter the atmosphere through the pipes of factories and machines. Modern ecology identifies several main problems for the people around them, caused by the active development of industry:

  • pollution of the human environment with industrial waste;
  • global warming and rising water levels in the oceans;
  • mutations of virus strains, epidemics, oncological diseases;
  • extinction of animal species, deforestation;
  • destruction of the ozone layer of the atmosphere;
  • depletion of mineral reserves.

The role of ecology in human life

Ecology plays an important role in human life, it affects all spheres of life: nutrition, health, life, mood. It is necessary to understand that with the deterioration of the environment, the quality of life also decreases.

Positive environmental impact

Places on the planet where the ecological situation is not subject to the detrimental influence of industry are carefully guarded. There they organize nature protection zones, nature reserves, build health resorts and equip resorts. Air baths and walking are beneficial for people with respiratory diseases, and drinking pure water helps prevent diseases of internal organs.

Long-term observations show that life expectancy in ecologically clean areas exceeds that in cities and near industrial enterprises. Based on this, one can understand how interconnected the ecology and man are.

How does bad ecology affect health?

The impact of ecology on human health is important. Living in large industrial cities, the neighborhood with factories and plants over time affects the state of any organism – this is bad ecology. Children are especially sensitive to their environment. Ecology and human health primarily depend on the quality of air and water.

Air

Unfavorable ecology has a detrimental effect on human health. Most respiratory diseases are caused by air pollution. Because of it, people are susceptible to bronchitis, asthma, allergies and are more prone to cancer.

Water

Water contaminated with hazardous waste is equally dangerous. According to ecologists, most of all diseases in the world are caused by the use of polluted water.

Common illnesses from drinking dirty water:

  • genetic mutations;
  • oncology;
  • diseases of the gastrointestinal tract;
  • immune problems;
  • infertility.

This is only a small part of the entire list, so you need to understand that the influence of nature on human health is quite large.

Hygiene and human ecology

The ecology of the individual is associated with human hygiene. Various microorganisms, viruses, worms and bacteria can be in the air, water, animal meat and cause various diseases. Open water bodies, rivers, lakes are especially dangerous. Inhaling air containing pathogenic microbes, there is a risk of contracting airborne infections such as diphtheria, flu, mumps, bronchitis, etc.

If the immunity is undermined by an unfavorable environmental situation, then the risk of infection increases several times. Therefore, it is so important to observe general hygiene standards and take medications that improve the protective functions of the body.
